calatrava’s reflection

Year 2014 collection. “Architecture can’t fully represent the chaos and turmoil that are part of the human personality, but you need to put some of that turmoil into the architecture, or it isn’t real.” Frank Stella

The Turning Torso or Torso Tower, as is better known, is located in Malmo and is a Calatrava’s masterpiece based on its own upper body twisting drawings and the challenge of equilibrium. The building twists, from bottom to top, the same angle latitude as the spine  of an averaged human being does when standing and twists its torso. Depending which reference building we have when comparing to the Torso Tower it gives the impression to be inclined, an illusion fooled by the twisted latitude.

I was going for my almost daily jogging and saw the beautiful colour the sunset was electrifying on the typical Calatrava’s white colour. I see this building every day and many times the sunset but this day, in the last weekend of October, I thought it was awesomely different with its reddish golden tons kissing the Torso Tower and decided to step back again into my door to pick-up my camera. I thought I should not miss it.  The jogging can always be done any time but the sunset does not wait and is never repeated in the same way. The result did not disappointed my decision.
